Carolina Oliveros belongs to a younger generation of musicians from Barranquilla, Colombia who are able to navigate and explore within many musical landscapes. While in Barranquilla she was part of many traditional groups as well as rock, metal, and jazz bands. Since her arrival to New York City in 2013 she has being exploring the sounds of West Africa and the Caribbean trough 60’s and 70’s funky records. Funana,AfroBeat,Tamboritos Panameños, and Bullerengues have become her source of inspiration. La Nación was born on 2015 as a way to explore the connections between these styles trough original compositions and a garage band approach.
